Mirena Birth Control

Mirena is manufactured by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals Inc.  Mirena is a form of birth control called an IUD (Intrauterine Device) or an IUS (Intrauterine Contraceptive System).  The word “intrauterine” simply means “inside the womb”.  An IUD is a small “T” shaped device that is inserted into the uterus to help prevent pregnancy.  An IUS is essentially the same as an IUD except that it releases low amounts of a progestin called “levonorgestrel” continuously into the uterus.  It is common for an IUS to be given to post-menopausal women to help balance their hormones.  Since an IUS continuously releases low amounts of levonorgestrel it is sometimes used to treat women with heavy, painful periods.

Since the time Mirena was approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration)  in 2000, cases of Mirena allegedly harming women who use it have come to light.  It is alleged the Mirena can puncture the uterine wall, embed itself in the uterus or move outside the uterus and perforate organs in the abdominal cavity.  If Mirena moves outside the uterus it can cause many adverse effects including (but not limited to) Internal scarring, Abscesses, Perforation of the Intestines, Organ Damage and Adhesions.  In some cases, surgery to remove Mirena has been necessary, causing potentially permanent complications.

The Maher Law Firm and Frank Eidson Attorney At Law, are currently investigating whether or not women who have been using Mirena were properly warned of the risks associated with this form of birth control.  If you believe you or a loved one has suffered injury or death due to a defective or dangerous pharmaceutical, you may have a right to compensation for your injuries.  To contact a Mirena Attorney today, simply fill out the form to your right, click the links above, or give us a call at 1-886-481-8667 we are her to represent you and/or your loved ones.  We do not represent insurance companies, or drug manufacturers.
