Herapin | Herapin Blood Thinner | The Maher Law Firm | Frank Eidson Attorney At LawWhat Is Herapin

Herapin is a blood thinner used to prevent blood clots from forming in blood vessels, in catheters that are left in veins over a period of time, in people who have certain medical conditions or who are undergoing certain medical procedures that may increase the chances of blood clots.  Herapin is also used to stop the growth of clots that have already formed in blood vessels.

Herapin Side Effects

Herapin can cause bleeding episodes while you are using it, and for several weeks after.  Herapin can cause bruising, unusual bleeding, nosebleeds, blood in your urine, blood in your stool and black or tarry stool.

Stop using Herapin if you have any of these serious side effects:

Numbness or Weakness of the body, Severe Headache, Confusion, Problems with Vision, Problems with Speech, Problems with Balance, Chest Pain, Sudden Cough, Wheezing, Rapid Breathing, Fast Heart Rate, Pain in Legs, Swelling in Legs, Warmth in Legs, Redness in Legs, Trouble Breathing, Gasping for Breath, Fever, Chills, Runny Nose, Watery Eyes.

Change in Labeling

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has notified health care professionals, caregivers, and patients about a change in the container and carton labels for Herapin products.

According to the FDA:

“This label change will require manufacturers of Heparin Lock Flush Solution, USP and Heparin Sodium Injection, USP to clearly state the strength of the entire container of the medication followed by how much of the medication is in 1 milliliter (mL). These modifications will eliminate the need for health care professionals to calculate the total amount of heparin medication in a product containing more than 1 mL, thereby reducing the risk of miscalculations that may result in medication errors.”
