Introvale Birth Control Recall

Novartis’ generic brand Sandoz voluntarily recalled 10 lots of the generic oral contraceptive Introvale.Norvartis Sandoz Introvale Birth Control Recall

The Introvale packaging in the US had the placebo tablets in the wrong location in the blister card.

The white placebo pills should have been put in 13th row which is the last row (Labeled: Week 13) of the blister card, but they were mistakenly put in the ninth row (Labeled: Week 9).

While the white placebo pills are clearly different than the peach-colored active tablets, the risk of  unintended pregnancy is a serious concern.

The 10 lots involved in the recall are as follows: LF00478C, LF00479C, LF00551C, LF00552C, LF00687C, LF00688C, LF00763C, LF00764C, LF00765C and LF01261C. These lots were distributed in the US between January 2011 and May 2012.

Sandoz is recommending that if a patient finds the white placebo tablet anywhere other than the 13th row, they should consult their healthcare professional and immediately begin using a non-hormonal form of contraceptions.
