Pfizer Sued in Murder-Suicide Case

Pfizer’s smoking cessation drug, Chantix is being blamed for a murder-suicide in Pennsylvania.  Thirty-four-year-old Sean Wain fatally shot his 33-year-old wife, Natalie, before shooting himself in May 2009. The couples’ fathers have filed a lawsuit against Pfizer, makers of the Chantix prescription Wain was taking to help quit smoking.

Clinical trials revealed Chantix carries an increased risk of “agitation, hostility, rage and suicide,” but such warnings were not issued until after this tragedy.  Pfizer is now required to post a black box warning on the product.
